About us
We, the Training and Testing Institute for Welding technology Munich, are:
- a welding training center of the industry and trade chamber Munich and Oberbayern
- the biggest institute for welding technology and adjoining areas of technologys in southern Germany
- As an education site, monitoring site, testing site and certification site through the DVS-PersZert®, the state of Bavaria, the Railway federal office (Eisenbahn-Bundesamt, EBA), the office of the states for safety technology (Zentralstelle der Länder für Sicherheitstechnik, ZLS) and CERTQUA accredited and acknowledged
- Since january 2000 a branch of the GSI – Gesellschaft für Schweißtechnik International mbH and one of the biggest institute in the GSI group
The company was founded by the German association of welding technology in 1950, to promote the development and application of welding technology charitable, company neutral and economically independent. In the beginning the activities were limited to the state of bavaria, nowadays we the team of the SLV Munich, is operating on a global basis.

Education, training, R&D
Our portfolio spreads from the practical training of welding, cutting, thermal spraying and mechanical joining over the qualification of skilled workers like welding supervision personnel (weling specialist, welding technician, welding engineer) to the further training of executive personnel. We are authorized to carry out standard courses according to guidelines of the German Association of Welding and Related Processes (Deutschen Verbandes für Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren e. V., DVS), the European Research Association Plate (Europäischen Forschungsvereinigung Blech, EFB), the European Federation for Welding, Joining and Cutting (EWF), the International Institute for Welding (IIW) and accoring to standards and guidelines on education and training. Our specifically designed seminars complete and enrich i.a. the know-how of the skilled and executive personnel on the following areas:
- Gas welding (G)
- Arc welding (E)
- Metal aktive gas welding (MAG)
- Metal Inert gas welding (MIG),
- Wolfram Inert gas welding (WIG)
- Plasma arc welding
- plastic welding
For the education and training of skilled and executive personnel there are 150 welding spots, course rooms, practice laboratories and highly qualified, engaged teaching personnel with operational experience available.
Our division "education, training, R&D" promotes the applied development of joining procedures and the processing of materials and material combinations through research and development works, which happen on behalf of companies or on behalf of the public within national or international funding programmes. The resulting, practice oriented knowledge transfer benefits our courses.
Quality assurance
For the manufacturing of welded and corrosion protected components extensive quality requirements have to be met. Our team of the quality assurance deals with questions of welding, testing and surface technology and helps interested people with the accomplishment of the manifold tasks - from the planning, to the monitoring, inspection and manufacturing to the approval and the preparation of the relevant documentation. Certification of quality systems conducted with the DVS Zert e. V. in the sections DIN EN ISO 1090, DIN EN ISO 9001, DIN EN ISO 3834 and DIN EN 15085. As an acknowledged site according to DIN EN ISO 17660 we are authorized to issue manufacturers qualifications. As an independent site we can certify quality standards according to the guidelines of the Association Thermal Spraying (Gemeinschaft Thermisches Spritzen, GTS e.V.)

Material technology
For all investigations on metals and ???? the division material technology with its testing devices for destructive and non-destructive material testing is well equipped and technically competent. Furthermore matters about the topics plastics, ceramics and composite materials are discussed. The expert and examination activities are not limited to the welding technology and the spraying technology. Questions form adjoining areas are handled, like cutting and non cutting material processing, hardening, foundry, heat treatment and material selection. Our testing laboratory is in the section of non-destructive materials testing accredited accoriding to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025.
