In post-war Germany the need for trained welders increased steadily. This caused the chairman of the regional association Bavaria and the local association Munich of the Deutscher Verband für Schweißtechnik (DVS) in August 1950 to found the Schweißtechnischen Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt München (SLV), to support welding technologies on a non-profit, neutral and financially independent basis according to the requirements of the industry and trades.
Today we, the team of the SLV Munich, see our social commitment in the support of education and science. As a training workshop the the industry and trades chamber for Munich and Oberbayern we dedicate ourselves to the education and training of teenagers and adults in the area of welding techniques. Our engagement goes from the greater area of Munich over the region to the whole state of Bavaria.
Additional to the practical welder trainings there are various one or multi-day courses, seminars and conferences from the field of welding technology and related processes. Part of it is the qualification of welding supervision personnel (international welding engineer, international welding technician, international welding expert) according to international guidelines, the qualification for testing personnel for the non-destructive testing, the welding of CrNi-steels and Al-materials, the mechanical joining and the thermal spraying.
A lot of our education and training measurements are funded by public grant funds. We cooperate with manifold institutions and are happy to help with the application of support measures.
Furthermore, our engagement includes projects as:
We, the team of the SLV Munich, are active in national and international committees of the DVS, the Deutsches Institut für Normung e. V. (DIN), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) - to just name a few. Publications and talks on different regional, national and international events show our competencies on various fields. Particular mention should be made to the seminar series "Technology Transer - the ASME Code" and certainly the traditional conference Welding in the Tank and Vessel Construction, which stands for expert talks on the highest level and the social contact in the sector.
At the GSI mbH Branch SLV Munich we are not only passionate about technology but also about art. An annual exhibition gives employees as well as regional artists the opportunity to present their works.
