ASME Code – Recognised standard for pressure equipment worldwide
The ASME Code is applied in over 100 countries worldwide, from the USA and Canada to Indonesia and the Bahamas. Companies seeking to design, produce or distribute pressure vessels and pressure components on the international market rely on the renowned ASME Certification Mark.
What is the ASME Code?
The ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code contains the rules of vessel and boiler construction of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. It is the most comprehensive standard governing the design, fabrication and inspection of pressure vessels and is updated at regular intervals, with a new edition published every two years.
Manufacturers of pressure vessels require ASME manufacturer approval for the respective “ASME Code Section” under which a component is to be produced. Evidence of ASME conformity includes stamping of the components with the ASME Certification Mark by the manufacturer.
The ASME Code is structured by its various applications, including:
- Section I: Power boilers
- Section III: Nuclear facility components
- Section IV: Heating boilers
- Section VIII: Unfired pressure vessels
- Section X: Fibre-reinforced plastic pressure vessels
